Learning Lee Academy

Registration is underway for Learning Lee, a program designed to give participants from the community an opportunity to learn more about Lee County Government and the services provided through daily operations.  Sessions are scheduled for Tuesday afternoons from 2 to 5 PM from Sept. 15 – Nov. 17 with a Graduation on Nov. 24.  Applications are due by 5 PM on Sept. 10 to Meta McCune in Human Resources.    You can submit a form electronically HERE

Proposed new zoning rules for oil and gas extraction (including “fracking”) operations and changes to existing zoning rules for traditional mining and quarrying operations for City of Sanford, Town of Broadway and Lee County Date: Monday, August 24, 2015 Location: Lee County Government Center @ 106 Hillcrest Drive (Gordon Wicker Room) Time: Presentation begins at 6:00pm PUBLIC NOTICE  The public is cordially invited to attend an informational meeting on proposed zoning rule changes to address new rules for oil and gas and changes to existing rules for traditional mines and quarries. The City of Sanford/Lee County Planning Department will be conducting a public information meeting on the evening of August 24th in the Gordon Wicker Room of the Lee County Government Complex at 106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford.  The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.  The purpose of this meeting is to allow the public to learn more information about proposed changes to our local zoning codes to address the oil and gas extraction (“fracking”) industry as well as proposed zoning code changes to existing rules for traditional mines and quarries. The meeting will include a presentation from Planning staff that details the proposed zoning changes and includes information about why the changes are being proposed and the process by which the draft rules were prepared.    Please note that at the conclusion of the presentation, staff will be available to answer questions.  HOWEVER, questions will be limited to those specific to the presentation and will not include general discussions about the pros and cons of hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) or other topics that are not directly related to the contents of the draft rules or related process.
