FLU Season is Here!
Although the FLU Virus is contagious, it is preventable! Below are tips to follow to help prevent the flu and recommended by the Center for Disease Control (CDC):
1. Get your yearly flu vaccination;
2. Everyone 6 months of age and older should get vaccinated as soon as the 2010-2011 season's vaccine is available;
3. People of "high risk" for serious flu complications such as young children, pregnant women and persons with chronic illnesses (diabetes, asthma, heart/lung disease, and etc.) are encouraged to get their flu vaccination;
4. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol based hand cleaners are also effective;
5. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or use your upper sleeve when you cough or sneeze. Please throw the tissue in the trash and cleanse your hands immediately;
6. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread this way;
7. Try to avoid close contact with sick people;
8. If you get sick, please stay home from work or school for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone, except to get medical care or for other necessities; and
9. While sick, please limit direct contact with people to avoid infecting them.
Should you have any questions or concerns, you may contact Lee County Public Health at 919-718-4640, Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5pm.

Monday, October 25, 2010
Lee County’s Veterans Service Officer John Sandrock is seeking Lee County’s oldest living veteran. The absolute deadline for submission of names to Mr. Sandrock is noon Friday, November 12, 2010. Date of birth can be verified by presenting any of the following documents: NC driver’s license or official picture ID, birth certificate, or family Bible. Lee County residence can be verified by presenting any of the following documents: NC driver’s license or official picture ID, utility statement, property tax document or other official document.
Once determined, Lee County’s oldest living veteran will represent Lee County and be acknowledged through a bronze hand cast on the Wall of Oath in the new North Carolina Veterans Park that will open in July 2011 in Fayetteville. A team of artists will cover the state bringing with them the materials needed to obtain the castings of each veteran and county soil samples.

The sacrifices intrinsic to military service will be acknowledged with beautiful architecture and public art. As part of the exhibits, a wall is being constructed that will bear a bronze cast mold of a veteran and soil sample from each of North Carolina’s 100 counties, “Joe Bryan, NC Association of County Commissioners President, Wake County Commissioner.
